Spiced Mango Smoothies – Recipe!

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Aloha!  I’m currently in Kona Hawaii with a good friend setting up her new house and enjoying the beaches and my surroundings.  This place is so magnificent — gorgeous sunrises, beautiful orange sunsets and it’s warm with a slight ocean breeze — perfect bathing suit weather.  While we’ve been here, things are still pretty closed up due to Covid in this community, so we’ve been making our own meals and enjoying her lush backyard.  During our trip I made these smoothies with frozen mangoes, yogurt and dried spices and when blended together, become a refreshing drink that’s creamy good, and goes down so easily.

A good blender is always a great tool in the kitchen so it can pulverize frozen fruit magically.  I went with frozen mangoes instead of fresh for two reasons.  First of all, it’s not mango season here on the island and secondly, I wanted this smoothie to be thick and semi-frozen.  Ground turmeric and ginger add an earthy tang to this drink that’s not only delicious with mango, but good for you and prevent inflammation.  I think this combination has just the right balance of sweetness, spiciness and creaminess all in one.  You definitely don’t need to be on an island make this smoothie and feel wonderful.
