I love a good cocktail infused with seasonal ingredients, and this Blackberry Basil Mojito is the best way to start saying goodbye to summer.
Blackberries are an underutilized berry in my opinion and pack a fresh punch of sweet juice. The combination of blackberry and basil is uniquely delicious and makes a perfect infusion with rum for a mojito that’s tastes out of this world. Mojitos are a refreshing cocktail because they contain a big splash of sparking water and become the perfect sipper to enjoy on a summer weekend.
I enjoy using the flavors of the season, and let’s face it — it’s hard to say goodbye to summer and begin to think about the fall season ahead. We do officially have a few more weeks of summertime, but after Labor Day, most of us begin to transition our palates into autumnal ingredients, so let’s savor while we can.
4 basil leaves
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
3 ounces rum
1/2 ounce Grand Marnier or triple sec
two handfuls of ice
3 ounces sparkling water
(Makes 1 Cocktail)
- In a cocktail shaker, add blackberries, basil and sugar.
- Using a dowel or handle of large spoon, mash ingredients together.
- Add rum, Grand Marnier and a handful of ice. Shake, shake, shake and strain into a glass.
- Add remaining ice to glass and top with sparkling water. Garnish with basil flowers and blackberries. Enjoy!
