3-Ingredient Flourless Chocolate Heart Cake – Recipe!

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and whether you have plans to share it with someone super special or not, chocolate is definitely a necessity on that day.  Making a chocolate cake is something that can get a little tricky for some, especially if it’s a layer-cake situation.  However, this simple Flourless Chocolate Cake recipe has very few ingredients, and it’s made in one-bowl, and baked in one-pan.  I went with a heart-shaped dish, but you can always bake it in a standard cake pan, or Springform pan with great results.

Butter, chocolate and eggs are the Only ingredients required here.  The key is to beat the eggs until frothy for 5 minutes, or so and then add the melted buttery chocolate mixture – pretty simple stuff.  Baking the cake in a water bath creates a jacuzzi-like environment, so the cake almost steams instead of bakes, a great technique for cakes with no flour.  The results give it a pudding texture with just a hint of crust around the top and edges, spoon-ability at it’s best!

I like to dust the cake with powdered sugar and toss a few raspberries on top for color.  This cake will store in your refrigerator for days, so just in case you and your sweetie can’t quite finish it, there’s more for several days to come.

To Prepare:

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.  Grease 9-inch heart shaped, cake or Springform pan, set aside.
  2. In a large microwave safe bowl, add chocolate and butter.  Heat on high for 1 minute, remove and stir.  Repeat one time, or until chocolate is smooth and creamy, set aside.
  3. In stand mixer or large bowl, beat eggs until frothy and slightly thickened.  Add chocolate mixture and mix on low for 1 minute.  Pour into prepared pan and place inside a roasting pan.  Place pan in oven and fill with hot water around perimeter until it reaches halfway up sides of pan.
  4. Bake for 20-25 minutes, just until set.  Remove and let cool for 30 minutes.  Using a knife, loosen edges and invert onto plate.  Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve with berries, if desired.  Enjoy!
