If there was a reason to have an Instant Pot, it would be for this quick pasta recipe, period. I’m not saying this because I’m sponsored by Instant Pot, you can use any type of electric pressure cooker you choose, it’s the method that matters. It’s hard to believe, that a pasta with sauce can actually come out tasting like a fantastic dish from an Italian restaurant in less than 10 minutes, but it does.
This recipe begins with pantry staples like dried pasta, canned tomatoes and dried herbs. You can even substitute jarred sauce, if that’s what you have on hand. Ground beef makes this meal hardy, but if you have ground turkey or chicken, that will work too. I added a touch of wine, but if you don’t drink, or you drank your last bottle yesterday evening, water or broth can do the trick.
I guarantee this meal will be a weekly thing, especially on those nights where you just can’t muster up another quick meal. However, I love the fact that I make this recipe just because it tastes delicious, and not because it’s easy.
Ingredients
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1 1/2 cups crushed tomatoes or jarred pasta sauce
- 1 cup white wine or water
- 10 ounces dried Rigatoni or other similar size pasta
- 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
- olive oil for cooking
(Serves 4)
To Prepare:
- Drizzle 2 teaspoons oil into Instant Pot and add onion. Saute for 1 minute and add oregano, salt and red pepper flakes, stir.
- Add ground beef and cook for 2 minutes. Add crushed tomatoes, wine, Rigatoni and water, stir. Place lid on top and cook on high pressure for 6 minutes.
- Let pressure release naturally for 1 minute, then manually release pressure immediately, and stir. Pasta should be al dente and sauce luscious. Spoon into bowls and sprinkle with Parmesan. Enjoy!

Hi Gena! This looks amazing but have one question. I don’t see when you are supposed to add the Rigatoni but assume it’s during step 2?
p.s., this is Shelly from the movies at Sandy’s house the other night. I had to check out your site, your recipes look amazing and think I’ll start with this one.
I’m always looking for one pot meals, and in the InstaPot or Crockpot is even better
Hi Shelly,
Yes, sorry! you were right add the Rigatoni in step 2. Thanks for noticing – I hope it turned out okay for you!
Cheers,
Gena
