Hornet’s Refresher – Recipe!

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

We made these drinks over Facetime with our Canadian friends a few nights ago and I thought they were super refreshing and a good way to kick-off the long holiday weekend.  I got the idea from a local restaurant in Santa Ynez called Brothers at the Red Barn, who make outstanding cocktails and food.  This drink is a mix between a spritz and a bee’s knees, but it doesn’t have gin – it’s made with bourbon.  The combination of bourbon, honey syrup, lemon juice and aperol make it this fun color and quite tasty too.

I made them (or should say, my husband made them) in a cocktail shaker and strained them over martini glasses, but you could serve them over ice if you prefer because it’s going to be so hot this weekend.  Either way, these drinks make a great sipper in the late afternoon and can be doubled or tripled in a pitcher for larger gatherings or parties.  Happy Labor Day weekend.
