A classic Negroni originates back to Florence Italy in 1919 and the ingredients are Gin, Campari and Sweet Vermouth. Even though Negroni’s are fairly old school they have been popping up everywhere lately from food and wine magazines to new restaurants around Los Angeles. I enjoy the bitter combination of flavors and it makes a great apertif.
I have fallen in love with a specific vermouth from Italy called Carpano Antica Formula, which I learned about on my last trip to NYC. The classic Manhattan is delicious with this vermouth as well and it is so smooth tasting that it lifts a cocktail into a new dimension. You can get Carpano Antica Formula at most fine liquor stores and/or wine stores and it sure is worth it.
