The Misfit opened last Friday in the space formerly operating as Annisette Brasserie.  Many know this massive space which is done in a “French Bistro” motif” — originally cost millions to build out.  The Misfit kept most of the same interior with just a few new touches — murals painted on the upper walls and new red bar stools.

We were seated immediately which was nice considering it was Cinco de Mayo.  The waitress was very pleasant and informed us of her favorite items.  We started with the Spicy Caramel Corn to snack on with our drinks.  It was flavorful, but way too spicy — and I like spicy!  Next, we sampled the Goat Cheese Stuffed Piquillo Peppers with Balsamic Glaze.  They were served slightly warm which gave the cheese a nice smooth texture.

Our next course, the Brussels Sprout Salad, with dried blueberries, manchego and bacon was a little bland.  I have had a similar salad at their sister restaurant (Le Grande Orange Cafe) and it had a better balance of flavors.  This one needed a bit more dressing or warm dressing to soften the sprouts, but something??  Lastly, we opted for the BLT Burger which was grass fed beef, gruyere, bacon, lettuce and tomato jam.  Definitely more tomato jam!  The burgers are all served on toast which is unique to this town and I like the fact that you don’t have to consume a huge bun to enjoy a burger.

Things that I think Misfit is definitely doing right from the start: 1) drink prices are reasonable and they don’t short pour their wine.  2)The menu is perfect for this economy with small plates and good prices.  3)  Hours of Operation – open many hours for the Santa Monica tourist crowd as well as locals.

Misfit is still working on some kinks, but not bad for week one……a nice addiiton for Santa Monica!
