Pizzeria Il Fico located on Robertson Boulevard in Beverly Hills has been creating some of the cities only Pugliese style cooking. This traditional pheasant style food has authentic flavors using ingredients such as rapini, favas and housemade mozzerella.
Pizzeria Il Fico has a small patio in front with a smattering of tables and a large bar on the inside. The paper menu is your placemat and there are also hand written special on the chalkboard above the entrance as well as a separate printed version.
For starters, the Involtino di Melanzana — Roasted Eggplant, rolled with Mortadella and Mozzarella and then covered in tomato sauce and cooked in the wood fired oven was outstanding. The sauce was tangy and delicious and the smokiness of the eggplant made this oh so easy to devour. I could of personally eaten two!
Next, the Il Fumo Pizza with Mozzarella, Smoked Bufala, Provolone, Mushrooms and Speck was cooked to perfection. The pizza’s at Il Fico are fairly thin and crispy but, very light in texture. The crust is made daily using 00 flour and you could really taste the intense cheese combination. The handmade hot peper puree served to add a little spice to the pizza, if desired, was intensely hot and added a nice kick.
For our entree, the Pork Chop with Sweet Potato Croquettes and Sauteed Rapini was a nice combination of flavors. The pork chop was a little overcooked but I enjoyed the bitter taste of the rapini with the crispy sweet potato.
Pizzeria Il Fico is creating some wonderful Italian comfort food. The wait staff and owners are kind and professional. The wine list is all Italian and reasonably priced. No outside wine on Fridays or Saturdays.
