Mint Julep – Recipe!

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

It’s Kentucky Derby day and there is no better cocktail than a Mint Julep to sip on while watching this historical race.

A Mint Julep is a simple mix of bourbon, simple syrup, mint leaves and a splash of sparkling water.  Bourbon originates in Kentucky, and is the most popular spirit in the entire state — and if it’s not made in Kentucky — you can’t call it bourbon.  Large hats, beautiful people with pastel suits and skirts will parade the grandstands during the day, and many are enjoying a traditional drink.

For those of us watching the big race at home, mix up a mint julep, while the horses strut into the arena before the actual derby race begins.  It’s one spectacular event that requires a good minty bourbon cocktail.
