Marshmallow Cereal Bars – Recipe!

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Cooking with my granddaughter is always a special time in the kitchen and making things we both enjoy like these gooey Marshmallow Cereal Bars are not only fun, but easy and sweet.

She’s only 3 1/2 years old, and she already knows her way around the kitchen.  When grandma comes to visit, we spend a bit of time cooking and baking together.  When she was only one years old, she helped put sprinkles on the cookies before baking, so I already knew treats were a favorite to make.  So, when I saw a box of marshmallow cereal in her pantry, I knew we had to make these simple cereal bars together.

We both love marshmallows and I don’t think she’s ever seen anyone melt them in a big pot with butter before.  She enjoyed watching me stir the melty white swirl of marshallows turn creamy over the heat, and when they were cool enough for her little hands, she helped press the cereal bars down in the pan.  She loved the sticky texture, but more importantly the chewy, marshmallowy flavors, and spending time with her grandma.

To Prepare:

  1. In a large pot, add butter and marshmallows and place over medium-high heat.
  2. When completely melted and smooth, add cereal.
  3. Turn off heat and stir to combine.  Pour into a casserole or metal baking dish and gently press into bottom of pan using spoon.
  4. When cool enough to handle, continue to press out evenly into bottom.  Cool to room temperature before slicing.  Enjoy!
