L’ Assiette Steak Frites – A Little Bite of Paris in Los Angeles

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

If you are still hankering for a bit of Paris after a recent visit then L’ Assiette Steak Frites will bring you right back.  This little spot on Melrose just recently opened and from the outside it looks just like any other storefront on the street but, on the inside is an upscale French bistro serving only steak and fries.  At L’ Assiette, for $25 you get a choice of soup or salad and steak with fries.

The service is incredibly kind and they have a decent wine list and a reasonably priced corkage fee of $15.  The red and white chic interior with tables spaced much wider apart than tables at Le Relais de l’ entrecote in Paris, but the food just as delicious.

To start – either sorrel soup or mixed greens with hazelnuts.  Both had incredible flavor and the soup was thick and creamy in a light potato base.  The salad was crunchy and dressed in a nice vinaigrette.

As for the Steak & Frites – the steak is prepared sous vide-style or cooked in a water bath and then seared before serving.  I loved the meat quality, but the pan sauce tasted a little more gravy-like than in Paris.  The French fries are an eight-hour process of soaking, frying, freezing and then frying again — you can’t get much better than this!

L’ Assiette Steak Frites is uniquely fun and a well priced addition to the French bistro style restaurants of Los Angeles.  It is nice to know we can have a little bit of Paris right here at home.
