The holidays wouldn’t be the holidays without a signature cocktail and on this Thanksgiving, since it’s just a few of you, making a special drink is easy enough to do. There are no needed punch bowls, or simmering crock pots of mulled wine at a smaller gathering, but that doesn’t mean you can’t pull out all the stops. A traditional cocktail with a twist, no pun intended, should shape things up quickly in any home, and a classic, like a Negroni, is always impressive.
Gin, Campari and dry vermouth are the players in a standard Negroni, but adding a splash of cranberry juice to the party, literally brings in some new light, and a slight fruitiness that I think most adults will enjoy. I like to sip on a Negroni up, in a martini glass, because who wants the ice to water it down, but if you like your cocktails to stay cold, serve it in a highball glass on the rocks. The floating fresh cranberries add a special touch to the presentation and let’s face it, we all could use a little more style during these times of Covid.
Ingredients
2 ounces gin
2 ounces dry vermouth
2 ounces Campari
2 ounces cranberry juice
fresh cranberries for decoration, optional
(Makes 2 Cocktails)
To Prepare:
- In a cocktail shaker, add two handfuls of ice. Add gin, vermouth, Campari and cranberry juice.
- Shake, shake, shake until cold and combined. Place a couple of fresh cranberries into martini glasses. Strain Negroni over the top into glasses. Enjoy!
