After a week or more of rain, it sure feels good to have the sun shining again and with Thanksgiving this week, and there are so many dishes to prepare ahead of the big day.
Starting on Monday, Cranberry-Orange Sauce with Fresh Pear can be made so there is one less thing to worry about. Tart cranberries cooked down with orange zest and sugar with a few fresh pears folded into the mix makes a pretty delicious condiment for turkey. On Tuesday, rolls come to mind, especially if they’re Sweet and Spicy Sourdough Rolls. Don’t let the name fool you – spicy doesn’t mean hot, but warming spices that fit so well with any holiday dinner.
Wednesday comes quickly this week because Thanksgiving begins tomorrow, so it might be a long day of cooking before the guests arrive. My Cornbread, Sausage and Apple Dressing is my favorite side dish and it always stands out as a family favorite. Thursday is the actual holiday and a Stuffed Turkey Breast is a good alternative for smaller gatherings, or for people who don’t enjoy the whole bird. The stuffing fills the center, so one less dish to prepare in the oven.
Black Friday is usually a day of shopping and what better meal to quickly prepare after a long day on your feet than this Turkey Enchilada Skillet. You can make it with shredded turkey or ground depending upon what your leftover situation looks like. Saturday’s are for baking and it’s time to get into the Christmas spirit with Cranberry Lemon Bars. A simple treat to finish off the weekend with family and friends. They also pack-up nicely as a going away gift for people catching an early flight back home.
