Whipped Goat Cheese and Apple Crostini with Hot Honey – Recipe!

Fall appetizers that are super easy to put together are my jam when it comes to entertaining, or to nibble on in the evening with a good glass of Roussanne or other white wine and these Whipped Goat Cheese and Apple Crostini with Hot Honey are super tasty and a cinch to make.

Whipping goat cheese until soft and creamy requires an addition of cream cheese and a splash of heavy cream — that’s it.  The texture becomes luxurious when whirled in a food processor or blender, while the flavors remain slightly tangy. The consistency is super spreadable, almost silky — the perfect canvas for crisp sliced fall apples to rest upon.

Hot honey has been popular the last few years, especially drizzled over cheesy foods like pizza, baked brie, sandwiches and crostini.  It’s a quick mix of pantry items that shouldn’t take more than a few seconds to stir together.  The finishing touch on these crostini are a few fresh thyme leaves torn off the stems at the last minute to keep that herbaceous fragrance.

To Prepare:

  1. Preheat broiler on oven.
  2. In a food processor, add goat cheese and cream cheese, puree until almost smooth.  Add cream and puree until silky, set aside.
  3. Place sliced apples in lightly salted water and set aside.
  4. Stir together honey, red pepper flakes and vinegar in a small bowl.
  5. Drizzle toasts with olive oil and put under broiler until golden brown, about 1 minute on each side.
  6. Remove and let cool, then spread with whipped goat cheese.
  7. Top with apples and drizzle with hot honey.  Finish with fresh thyme leaves by running fingers up stems to release leaves.  Enjoy!
