If you haven’t eaten at Josie in Santa Monica in a while, you should see what’s going on next door —Next Door by Josie. This hip new eatery is next to the original Josie and is offering some casual favorites. The ambiance is warm with small tables, televisions over the bar and dark wood interior. The menu offers small bites, charchuterie and cheeses as well as larger plates of comfort foods we all crave.
Deviled Eggs with Cracklin’s and Roasted Beets
For starters the Deviled Eggs with Cracklin’s were smooth and creamy with a nice fatty crunch from the fried pork. They went down easy with a cold beer or crisp glass of wine. Josie, known for her finesse with game meats, prepares game pate’. This rich and decadent square has nice texture and wasn’t too over powering. Game chili is another specialty at Next Door, something she has been offering her customers at Josie for years.

For sandwiches, the Duck Confit Banh Mi is a real favorite along with the Dry Aged Burger or Natural Hot Dog with Fennel Kraut. For larger plates, the Mussels with Elk Chorizo and Coconut Milk were flavorful in a delicious chunky broth. Next Door also serves up a Vegetable Pot Pie with Cheddar Crust that shouldn’t be missed.
