Ranch dressing has been made popular by the “Hidden Valley” folks for ages, but my homemade Buttermilk Ranch Dressing is hard to beat.
Good ranch dressing is a simple mixture of buttermilk, mayonnaise, a few dried spices and fresh chives. You whisk it up quickly in a bowl into a refreshing blend of flavors that can be tossed with bib lettuce, spread over sandwiches, or used a dip with crunchy carrots and celery. It’s so different from that bottled stuff – it’s cool and tangy, and so much more fun.
Make a big batch and save some in the refrigerator to enjoy at mealtime or anytime – it’s especially nice to dip those spicy hot wings into for some tasty relief, or a quick fix salad. I think it has so much more personality.
Ingredients
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 shallot, minced
1 clove garlic, minced
1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
1 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon fresh chives
(Makes 1 1/2 Cups)
To Prepare:
- In a bowl, whisk together all ingredients except chives, until smooth.
- Fold in chives with a spoon and serve, or keep chilled in refrigerator until ready to use. Enjoy!
