Ranch Dressing has been a popular favorite and prepared at home from that “Hidden Valley” packet for ages. I am not one for already prepared seasonings because I think you can make most recipes taste better and fresher with a few pantry ingredients instead. Salad dressing is definitely one of those things that you can skip at the market, and easily prepare in your own kitchen.
Good Ranch Dressing is a simple mixture of buttermilk, mayonnaise, a few dried spices and fresh chives. You whisk it up quickly in a bowl into a refreshing blend of flavors that can be tossed with bib lettuce, spread over sandwiches, or used a dip with crunchy carrots and celery. It’s so different from that bottled stuff – it’s cool and tangy, you will be amazed.
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 shallot, minced
1 clove garlic, minced
1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
1 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon fresh chives
(Makes 1 1/2 Cups)
- In a bowl, whisk together all ingredients except chives, until smooth.
- Fold in chives with a spoon and serve, or keep chilled in refrigerator until ready to use. Enjoy!
