Superba Food & Bread on Lincoln Blvd. has been opened since April and I finally made a trip over to taste their food. The space is quite large and open with sliding glass door to give it an indoor-outdoor feel. There is a large pastry counter where you can view and purchase vast amounts of breakfast pastries, breads and desserts. The viewing kitchen to one side of the restaurant offers a eye full of prep from meats to breads.
What makes this place so fantastic is the offering of three meals a day with a change of menu at each. The wine and beer list is adequate for summer dining with a nice French Rose’ on a hot day.
As for lunch, it starts with Toasts to Taste + Share which are homemade toppings on top of their fabulous breads. The Soup and Salads offer a handful of options with my favorite – Frisee aux Lardon Salad, consisting of bacon confit, which is a small slab of pork belly on the side of frisee lettuce, soft poached egg all tossed in a very grainy mustard.
Sandwiches are a big part of Superba Food & Bread and the Bahn Mi is always a nice hit. I was in the mood for meatballs, so they accommodated my request and served them up crock-style instead of on a hero. The sauce and peppers were spicy sweet it all tasted lovely.
The desserts were beautifully presented and the butterscotch tart was no exception. The butterscotch was mild and creamy – a little more pretty than decadent.
As for pastries the Kouign Amann or butter cake as it is named after was buttery and crunchy, made to perfection. *Sorry no picture, my friend and I devoured it.
Superba Food & Bread makes delicious food in a lovely open environment. The breads and pastries are an event in itself . I am really looking forward to trying the chefs Brisket on Saturdays.
